Richard Stilliard

December 09, 2015

Richard Stilliard is the IB Coordinator and 12th grade IB History/American Studies teacher at Rancho Solano.  He is a world traveler and global educator with a passion for the International Baccalaureate Programme, “I am really excited by the opportunity to apply my experiences and knowledge of the IB at Rancho Solano. I believe the IB is the best curriculum in the world because it has the potential to bring the best out of teachers and students and create very powerful learning moments. No other curriculum in the world prepares young people for university and later life better than the IB.”

Growing up in the outskirts of London, Mr. Stilliard attended an old-fashioned British boarding school, earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Leeds, and received his Master’s in Multi-Disciplinary Studies from Buffalo State/SUNY. After teaching for six years in London and Leeds, Mr. Stilliard’s first international post was in Kuwait, where he taught High School Humanities at Al Bayan Bilingual School (a U.S./AP curriculum K-12 school) followed by teaching IB History in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam at the Renaissance International School Saigon.  “Teaching students from multicultural backgrounds in different environments has been an incredibly stimulating experience for me,” he smiles.

Mr. Stilliard is currently a History examiner for the IB and has been involved in pilot studies for the Programme as well.  You can watch a video of him teaching a lesson on the IB website here: Teaching through Inquiry.
