Trash to Art Makes Important Statement

May 12, 2016

Visual Art students were challenged to create collaborative sculptures expressing the importance of recycling and the negative impact littering has on the environment. To do so, they collected trash from the student body, which they incorporated into their artworks. One class created a larger than life sculpture of a Tic-Tac box. Their vision illustrates the Tic-Tacs spilling out of the box and onto the ground, to express how important it is to properly dispose of trash. Two other classes focused on the impact littering has on the ocean. One class created a wave out of wire, plastic bottles, and wrappers. The other class created a full scene of ocean animals, swimming amongst bottles. Their focal point is a jellyfish, made almost entirely out of plastic bags. The sculptures the students created are impressive, and showcase the importance of recycling and taking care of the environment through poignant artistic expression.
