Veterans' History Project

November 09, 2017

The Veterans’ History Project was created by the Library of Congress to help ensure that we record as many perspectives of our country’s Veterans as possible. Our seventh graders have been granted permission to participate in the Project even though they recommend interviewers to be at least 15 years old. We invited 12 Veterans from Vietnam through present day to visit the school to be interviewed for the Project. The students practiced their interview skills before meeting with the Veterans and were completely independent during the interview process. The interviews ranged from 40 to 90 minutes long. For the next step, the students will be preparing the interviews for the Library of Congress. In April, when the seventh graders are on their trip to Washington DC, they will visit the Veterans’ History Project office to personally turn in their interviews. While they are there, the Director will speak to the students about the importance of the Project, and how the interviews will be used. The link below is from the searchable database of previous Rancho Solano interviews. It will take approximately a year before the interviews from today will be part of the collection.
