Vex Robotics Launches at Lower School

May 09, 2017

We are excited to share the details of our recent kickoff event introducing the Vex Robotics and STEAM curriculum at the Lower School! Open to 4th and 5th graders currently involved in the STEAM Club, the launch introduced our Vex Robotics and Dash and Dot Robots, along with other educational tools that teach coding, design, engineering, math, science, and problem solving skills all within one curriculum.

Six teams of four students each were tasked to build and test their robots in preparation for the competition. During matches consisting of/between two teams, the students had to work together to move scoring blocks located on the competition field to accrue points. Multiple rounds were held between the teams to determine the top two seeds that competed in the final match.

Over the next two years, Rancho Solano is building robotics and coding programs that will benefit our youngest students through 12th grade. Our goal is to have the leading K-12 robotics and coding program that combine classroom components with curriculum and include interscholastic robotics competitions.  A huge thank you to the Lower School Parent Teacher Organization for their support of this program and purchasing the equipment to move our STEAM education initiative forward at the Lower School and throughout the academic career of the Rancho Solano student.
