Health and Wellness

Wellness at Rancho

Rancho Solano Preparatory School promotes a holistic approach to each student developing his or her own unique potential through physical, mental, and social practices.

Philosophy

Each campus has a fulltime Registered Nurse and a School Counselor. We believe that physical and emotional safety are essential to a productive learning environment.  We work closely together and partner with families to help students develop positive short and long-term health and wellness outcomes.

School Nurse

The School Nurse serves in a pivotal role to provide expertise and oversight for the provision of school health services and promotion of health education. The School Nurse is a liaison between students, parents, and educational staff members regarding health concerns. He or she may recommend further medical follow-up when a health problem is suspected.  The health office provides first aide and medical care primarily for illness or injuries that occur during the school day. It is not a primary care facility like a doctor's office. The nurse uses clinical knowledge and judgment to collaborate with families and physicians to provide health services/screenings in an educational environment in which your child can learn and thrive. While the nurse does not make a medical diagnosis or prescribe medication or treatment, medication and treatment prescribed by a physician may be given in the health office.

School Counselor

The School Counselor assists with academic, social, and emotional concerns through the facilitation of individual counseling, group counseling, and the development of counseling curriculum.  The School Counselor educates, supports, and assists students as they navigate through life’s challenges while promoting positive life choices.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is essential to building a trusting relationship between students and the school counselor.  Exceptions for when confidentiality may be breached include the following:

  • Student discloses that they are in danger of hurting themselves (self-disclosure or disclosure by someone else)
  • Student discloses that they are in danger of hurting someone else
  • Student discloses that they are being hurt by someone

In addition, it is sometimes beneficial and necessary for the School Counselor and school-based staff (i.e. Administrators, Teachers, Nurse, etc.) to collaborate and/or exchange information concerning students (goals, strategies, progress, etc.). All communication will take place on an as needed basis and will focus appropriately on the needs of the student.
