Grade-by-grade roadmap

At Rancho Solano, college counseling begins early and continues through every step of High School. Our structured, year-by-year roadmap helps students build skills, explore opportunities, and make informed decisions on their path to college.

01
Preparing for High School

Students in 8th Grade build study skills and habits while meeting monthly with the Bridge to High School team to prepare for a smooth transition to high school.

02
Exploring interests

9th Grade students attend monthly advisory sessions, begin tracking activities, attend college fairs, take the PSAT, and plan meaningful summer experiences.

03
Strengthening foundations

Advisory sessions continue monthly. 10th Grade students deepen involvement in activities, update resumes, explore career options, take PSAT/SAT prep, and consider summer programs and college visits.

04
Planning for college

Students in 11th Grade focus on grades, leadership roles, and resume building. Junior year includes college list development, standardized testing, essay planning, college fairs, and parent events.

05
Applying and deciding

Senior year students finalize college lists, complete applications and essays, attend advisory sessions and college visits, submit financial aid forms, and make final enrollment decisions.

College counseling information is delivered during our schoolwide morning advisory sessions, giving students regular exposure to guidance and planning resources. During this time, students also attend on-campus college fairs, and throughout the day, college admissions representatives visit campus, offering opportunities to learn directly from colleges.

Individual meetings

As one of the best private schools in Arizona, students can schedule one-on-one meetings with their college counselor at any point during the school day. These meetings are tailored to each student’s needs, providing support for everything from early college planning to essay guidance and application strategy.

Flexibility and accessibility

Advisory sessions, college fairs, and individual meetings are coordinated to fit seamlessly into students’ schedules. This integration ensures that every student has consistent access to personalized guidance without interrupting their academic responsibilities.

Dhruv Class of 2019

Earning the IB diploma prepared me to thrive at UCLA and now in medical school.

It taught me how to write well, how to manage my time effectively, how to balance multiple difficult classes with extracurriculars, and how to think critically to solve difficult problems. Beyond the IB program, Rancho's wonderful teachers and, knowledgeable college counselors supported me in my journey.
